Blue Ridge, GA

Like most of the world, my family spent Christmas at home, with family. However, since my sister and I did not get out of school until the 22nd of December, (way too late!) we still had two weeks left of Christmas vacation! This year, we went to our cabin for a week. Our cabin is located in the small north Georgia town of Blue Ridge. So... like I'll do with all my travel posts, here are the top five things you should know/do in Blue Ridge.

1.If you go in the summer... GO TO LAKE BLUE RIDGE! This is an incredibly beautiful lake, and there are many public access points. Also, if you want to rent a pontoon boat for a day outing (which is incredibly fun!)... here's the website.

2. Go tubing on the Toccoa River. This is a great river, and if you go with the Toccoa Valley Campground company (webiste here) it should take about 2-3 hours, depending on what time of year you go. (The length of time varies because later in the summer there is less water in the river.)

3. Get a wild west picture taken at River Junction Olde Tyme Portraits. This is such a fun place to go, and it only takes about twenty minutes to get a hilarous picture that will last a lifetime! (website here)

4. Visit the store POSH. This is such a fun store! Everything has a very personal touch. Plus, they get their products from induvidual dealers, so they are always unique! This store is in downtown Blue Ridge.

5. Go hiking on the Aska Trails. These are gorgeous trails with stunning views and great color in the fall. They also intersect with some of the most famous trails in the South East, like the Appaliacian Trail and the Benton Mackaye Trail.

A Tutorial: Kindle Touch Case

I made this case for my sister, Sarah, when she received the Kindle Touch for Chirstmas. It is a drawstring bag with felt on the inside for added protection. Also, even though I made this for a Kindle you can make it for anything! (travel makeup bag, trinkets, or school supplies???) Plus, it's a quick and easy project :)

Alright, 1st step.... pick your supplies! I choose pink felt (2 sheets of 28c. felt from michaels) for the inside, that matched the pink flowers on the pattern. Then, you need about a half a yard of fabric for the outside of your case. Last, you need one yard of coordinating ribbon for the draw string. (I got 1/2 yd. and it was a little too short. It's better to have too much than too little, right?)

2nd step.... cut 2 pieces of your case fabric (10in. X 6in) and two pieces of your felt (10.5in. X 6.5in.) You want a little wiggle room for the bag to close when the drawstring is pulled, and when you are done, you can trim off the extra felt. Pin the felt to the wrong side of the fabric.

3rd step.... sew diagonal lines across the cover fabric for a quilted look. You could omit this step and just sew straight lines around the fabric, but..... it would be so much cooler if you sewed diagonal lines across. ;)

***Quick Tip*** The way I kept my diagonal lines straight and the same size (you can make them any size you want) was making sure the space between my presser foot and the last thread stayed even, and the same width, the entire time.

4th step.... So before you put your finished pieces together you need to sew your ribbon in. (Actually you could just thread it through once you were finished, but I found this way to be easier.) So I folded over the fabric a little more than the width of the ribbon- my ribbon was 1/4" so I folded the top over about 1/2". Once you have the ribbon through both of the sides, you can sew the sides and the bottom up! (put right sides together and sew around the fabric) Last, turn it inside out and enjoy!
